Gap’s and Island’s

Gap’s and Island’s (2017) presents eight casts of varied increased ratios of transparent resin to concrete that exemplify the decline of short-term memory loss.

The casts are balanced within a symmetrical framework that both frames space and divides distance. Specifically, inspired by the gaps and islands that are created through the lucid moments within Alzheimer's and Dementia’s short-term memory loss. The gaps refer to the absence and decline of short-term memory.

The polar orientations of the transparent resin and heavy concrete casts explore the concept of weightlessness. Concretes poignant weight represents the presence of long-term memory and resins transparency links to the absence of short-term memory.

As a whole, scale, weight and balance, generate a strong sense of presence through coherent industrial materials.
